Matt leads Padilla, one of the industry’s most-respected mid-sized brand and strategic communications firms. Throughout his nearly 30 years in the field, he has been a continuous trend watcher, learner, educator and innovator – helping the agency and clients stay ahead of “what’s next.”   He is a seasoned public relations and marketing professional, helping clients across a wide range of industries build, grow and protect their brands and reputations. Matt’s team of more than 200 professionals spanning six offices (Minneapolis, New York, Chicago, D.C., Richmond and San Francisco) and 4 brands (Padilla, Joe Smith, FoodMinds and SMS Research) helps clients across a wide range of industries build, grow and protect their brands and reputations.  Matt himself is a highly sought-after marketing, communication and business counselor with expertise in branding, corporate communication, reputation management, and crisis and critical issues response. 

Matt has planned and implemented award-winning programs and projects for a wide range of Padilla clients, from global Fortune 500 enterprises to promising category challenges. Clients benefitting from Matt’s experience include Rockwell Automation, Mayo Clinic, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, Be The Match, Tyco Retail Solutions, 3M, Valspar, Microsoft, Cisco and numerous others. He has extensive expertise in brand and reputation management, message development, thought leadership, integrated campaigns, new product and service launches, and major company transformations. He leads and facilitates brand strategy sessions as well as customer advisory council meetings and is one of the agency’s highly requested executive media and presentation coaches.

As a result of Padilla’s acquisition by AVENIR GLOBAL in 2018, Matt serves on the network’s Board of Directors and facilitates collaboration between Padilla and other AVENIR GLOBAL brands around the world.  He also is one of the agency’s primary liaisons to the Worldcom Public Relations group and served as global chair.

In his spare time, Matt is an adjunct faculty member for the Master’s in Strategic Communication program at the University of Minnesota and sits on the boards of Pheasants Forever and The Greater Twin Cities United Way. He is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society “Page Up” program and an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, having served numerous leadership roles both locally and nationally.

When he’s not on a plane, in a conference room or in the classroom, you’ll find Matt walking the fields and woods with his three dogs, hitting the latest foodie joint with his wife Holly, or meeting his daughter Carah on a dive trip in the Caribbean in search of seahorses, turtles and big green morays.
